Colonial Tool specializes in the design, manufacture, repair, and rebuilding of all types of gear-driven machine spindles.
These exceptionally rugged spindles are ideally suited for heavy metal removal applications. Large arbor mills requiring significant horsepower and torque are prime examples of machinery utilizing gear-driven spindles. For demanding boring operations and/or multi-spindle boring clusters, gear-driven spindles are also highly effective. We offer double enveloping or parallel helical gear reduction systems for extreme, heavy-duty applications. Where the application necessitates, coolant can be delivered to the cutting tool directly through the spindle shafts. Typically, the main spindle bearings are permanently grease-lubricated, while the gear train benefits from oil lubrication via an integrated, closed-loop system complete with its own oil reservoir. This design results in a relatively compact unit that requires minimal maintenance and few additional components from the end user.
